Echo Dot strangeness

I have an Amazon Echo Dot in the basement. Wife wanted one too, so she keeps it in the kitchen. Occasionally, she wants to listen to music, so she talks to hers in the kitchen, it lights up, and... The one downstairs is the one playing. Do multiple units somehow link together? We thought maybe the one downstairs is hearing her, but if we shut the door so it can't hear, it still responds even though hers lights up.

Check this setting out. You can set music to play on multiple devices creating an entire home sound system. It might be on.

Thanks. Checked her settings, and it didn't have a preferred speaker set. Mine didn't show up in her settings, but set hers as the preferred one. It played back through hers as a quick test.

While you're in there turn off the permission for Amazon to listen to your conversations. The default is yes.

Both of my Dot Gen 3 units turned themselves on at 1:30 in the morning, earlier this week, and started playing music.

One in the master bedroom (that was a rude awakening), and one in the living room... and I was the only one in the house.

I have an Echo and two dots "connected". It works pretty well playing my Prime Music throughout the house.
