I have a odd grease application thats part of the rear end of a old British car (rear hub of TVR Vixen) Thing is that is hard to take apart and i do not know what grease is in there now.
Now if you did not know what was previously used what kind of grease would you put in there knowing that things would be mixing ?

at first thought i was thinking just to put Mobil one grease and hope for the best.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't mix at all, would clean old grease out with gasoline and then use standard bearing grease, GC LB NLGI #2. I don't know about British cars but there was a time when sodium grease was often used and it is not compatible with Mobil 1 and most others you'd find today.

If the old grease is shot, why would you even want to leave it and any contamination in there?

After cleaning it out, yes you could use Mobil 1 synthetic.

If you absolutely cannot get the old grease out for some reason, then you should research further what the vehicle used originally and use same type of grease.
