Old Vise info

A friend of mine bought this old vise and can't get any details on it. I thought I'd show it here and see if anyone knows anything about the vise. It's a S.J. Smart #12 made in Brockville ON, Canada. He can't find when it was made or what happened to the company. Anyone?

Never seen that one, exposed screw vises are usually junk but they usually are imported.

Those old ones are cool, but I hate how they aren't flat on the bottom.
