I am thinking of buying this one
https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/...g-assist-system-pas-4-3-in-0354065p.html

It is coming up on sale for half price, at $100. Before you compare that to US prices, remember that stuff, in general, is more expensive in our semi-socialist country.

It is a wired camera and I don't mind running a cable from the rear license plate to the cab. I expect the wired cameras to work better than the wireless ones.

I put one in my Tundra; love it.
The problem is the screen; where do you put it.
Luckily the Tundra uses a double din radio and I wanted Android Auto given the low prices nowadays.

Go for it.

I have a Hopkins smart hitch that I installed a few years back. It is also a wired unit and works quite well. If you have a round trailer wiring connector on your vehicle there is no splicing required. The camera/sensor setup is a little goofy looking but it does the job.

Whats Semi-Socialist? Like synblend oil? 1%-49%? You'll enjoy a backup camera. I hated the thought and now wont drive without it. Hope you like it as much as I do.

I could really use one, Saab 9000 has really terrible rear visibility - big blind spots and you can't tell where the back of the car is. On a whim I tried a wireless rear camera that was on display at Costco but wound up returning it. The camera with its rechargeable battery and solar panel was housed in a thick license plate frame that on my car completely obscured the license plate lights, and probably obscured more of the plate than the constables would want. (A shame as it otherwise was very easy to install and worked well, but why give The Man probable cause for a stop?)

I've been thinking of just attaching a pole to the back of the hatch... crazy

I got a cheapo one that goes over the rearview mirror--my truck has a cap on it, and both rear windows are tinted, so the rearview mirror wasn't great to begin with. I had to add some ventilation holes to it but it works ok otherwise. One thing that I should have done was to connect power to it through a switch on the dashboard. It's nice to have it come on when I back up but I found too often I needed to back up, go forward a few feet, then back up again--or I needed to roll forward just a foot or two while watching the mirror (like hooking up a trailer). So I used a couple of diodes to connect power via the parking circuit and the reverse light. At that point I might as well just used a switch on the dash as now it's always on when driving with the headlights on.

Comes in nice though in a pickup with limited rearward visibility, and I even put a camera onto my enclosed trailer so I could see behind that. Too cheap to not do these days.

For $100 I'll continue to just use my mirrors and common sense when backing up. Never had a problem using mirrors; even hooking up a trailer wasn't an issue that I needed a camera for.

My wife's car (2018) came with one, but I usually forget to use it.

Good for you.

Mirrors and common sense work ok ... A back-up camera just works BETTER. Knowing for sure what is behind you, and exactly how close it is to your bumper, makes backing out of driveways and parallel parking so much easier, and safer.

I KNOW is always better than I THINK.

I live in a congested city and have to often back up into tight spots, like having to come within a few inches of the car behind me. Right now I have to get out and look at how many more inches I can back up before I proceed further. Not having to jump in and out of the truck would be nice.

Semi-Socialist as in government being a larger part of the economy than in the US. Not full socialist as in Venezuela or Cuba where government spending dominates the economy.

Seriously, that is way too much money for what it is.

I got a basic camera with a screen that fits on the rearview mirror, backup camera kit and the power kit for a total of $45 ($30+$15) and its working very well. The only issue I have is, the image has a purple tint and I don't know how to adjust the white balance. Since almost all Chinese manuals are very difficult to decipher, I threw it away all of them. Other than the purple hue, I have no complaints about the set up.

For the ageing population that may have trouble turning their head, the BU Camera is great.

To help myself, when ever I pull into a parking lot, park further from the store and pull into the farther spot so you DO NOT have to backup.
