Will a CV half shaft make noise in 2WD on a 4WD?

I used 4WD yesterday AM on the Blazer without any issues, but now there's a loud click on the driver's side whenever 4WD is engaged.

If this was the CV half shaft, wouldn't I hear it regardless of 2/4WD usage? I realize there's no load, but stuff is still spinning nonetheless. 4WD seems to be working fine aside from the noise.

Sounds like the hub lock mechanism isn't engaging fully, maybe cycle it a few times while moving the vehicle?

Yes, a bad CV would make noise in 2 or 4wd

If it wasn't engaging fully, wouldn't 4WD not work at all?

Get under it and examine the boot. A tear letting grease out and contaminants in is a normal cause of failure, though now we're talking about something 23 y/o. The grease may have turned in a caked up mess years ago.

If it's really on the driver's side, yes the CV is the primary suspect.

Yes it's on the driver's side for sure.

I can also confirm that the 4WD is indeed functioning. Tried attacking an ice covered driveway and my truck wouldn't have it. Engaged the front end and she crawled right up.
