You may have already seen this, but the description states that it's an aluminum frame.. Not sure if that's a concern to you?

I'm not sure how old your son is, or how sensitive to recoil he might be but I don't find aluminum framed .45s as pleasurable over a couple hundred rounds as a steel frame...I'd do the springer every day over and over...

I did; not too much of a concern as all of the SIG pistols I have ever owned were also aluminum frame with a steel or stainless steel slide. I was not really looking for a Kimber as they are known to be $$$$, but this was seemed reasonable provided it is of decent quality.

Sorry, I missed it. Smoky Mountain had them a little cheaper with no tax and free shipping.

Kimbers can be hit or miss as far as quality. Plus, with all internals being MIM it really doesn't justify the cost. Also, check out Remington's 1911's. I've had several and no problems with any of them.

Tisas also makes a very affordable one..

Idk about their 1911s, but their hi power clones are nice.

I hear they're developing quite a following amongst Hi Power fans. Even C&S is offering completed, customized Tisas Hi Power clones.

In fact, I've heard, maybe even in this forum, that the owner of C&S has said that the heat treat on the Tisas pistols may even be better than the FNH guns.

Nobody has mentioned Auto-Ordnance, owned by Kahr, made here in the USA. My son has one of their 1911A1's, and it is an almost perfect clone of a USGI M1911A1, with a matte-blue finish. He has fired several hundred rounds through his with no issues. I got him some USGI surplus magazines to use. Comparing the quality with a Colt Series 80 that I own, it's pretty close. I think my son paid just under or just over $500 for his.

This is mine, back when I bought it. It's been a good running pistol. But I don't have a high round count on it. And this one is an all Stainless gun, (no Aluminum).
