That problem with sludge was literally 20 years ago....close to a quarter-century ago.

So, Subaru issue with gaskets was decade+ago. Is there then time cut off when it does not count anymore? On that note, at least new Subaru's have transmission that properly works.

Yes, the cutoff is when the problem occurred several engine generations ago....

Yeah, Subaru resolved that issue, unlike for example Lexus on their 8 speed transmissions. Not that I am fan of Subaru, as many know, but what is saying is same as saying: yes, 3.0 V6 had sludge issues.

I've seen some 1MZ-FE with epic amounts of sludge, But have yet to see one fail because of it. The only reason people find out about the sludge is because the valve cover gaskets start leaking at @ 200,000 miles.

The later VVT 1MZ-FE & it's sister 3MZ-FE had redesigned valve covers & PCV that pretty much fixed the sludge issue.

Then again.....I have a customer with a 1995 Avalon with over 400,000 miles, Mobil 1 10w30 every 5,000 with nothing more than light varnish!
