stopped by a quick eats place a couple hours ago as i worked a 16 hour day and didn't feel like preparing anything tonight,

my total was $5.35, so i proceeded to give the young lady attendant a 5 dollar bill, a quarter, a nickle, and 5 pennies.
she looks at her hand then at me and says "i need 35 cents"

so i counted out the change 25 cents on the quarter 30 cents with the nickle and 35 cents with the 5 pennies which makes a nickle.

she looks and says "ohhhh"

How was the food? I've given up on the younger generation as cashiers...and we don't even use pennies anymore.

Things are really bad with the younger generations. It's only getting worse.

Back in college a roommate bought a soda at a nearby C-store and gave the cashier extra money so his change would be a quarter. The cashier was able to figure it out without help or delay and my roommate told him "he was too smart to be working here."

A few decades ago, my wife, myself and two friends went to a soft ice cream shop in Indiana. At the time, the cones were a dime each. Well, we ordered four cones which were produced and handed out, The young lady at the window then took out a pad and pencil and wrote down four 10s in a column and proceeded to add them up with, no kidding, the tip of her tongue sticking out due to the difficulty of the math! She did get the correct amount of $0.40 but after we walked away from the service window, we all laughed so hard that we almost lost our ice cream!

Who exactly to blame, millennials (born 1980ish to 2000ish), their parents, or the complaining geezers responsible for their parents? Zuckerburg invented Facebook but he didn't invent the smartphone. Twitter was apparently invented by Gen Yers. The iphone is considered the first smartphone for the masses and was obviously invented by Apple Inc.

So blame the kids for eating the digital candy or blame who made the candy and gave it to the kids? Put another way, in most cases the crack (apps) or crackpipe (smartphones) can be blamed on the users. Same old rant heard every generation.

I guess … I use 3 iPhones and two iPads but don't have a Facebook account.

I did wake up with chapter 7 on my face this morning, does that count as facebook ? 🤓

Today's kids, (read Millennial's), are simply products of their education. (Indoctrination would be a better word). Most today are not taught any history prior to before 1980. Because it would stifle the indoctrination process. All you have to do to prove this, is watch these You Tube history tests given to these kids on the street. Many don't know who won the Civil War, or WW II.

This is the reasoning behind having statues removed that have stood for a century or longer. Most all of which define past American history and heritage.

Communism and socialism have produced nothing but failed examples all over the world. But you have to study history to see them, and understand why they have failed. Today's liberal teachers don't want these bad examples taught to young kids. Because again, it interferes with their indoctrination process. So the end result, is we now have a bumper crop of idiots, who think they are "owed" a free education, job, health care, house, and everything else prior generations had to work for.

OK, so then why are we so happy to diss the kids?

FWIW I remember the railing in the 70s that hippies, drugs, and Woodstock spelled the end of civilization, and yet here we are still.

EDIT: Just realized that back in the day the OPs experience would have been a blonde joke...

A couple of reasons. First off, the Baby Boomers had liberal teachers and professors back then, same as kids do now. Berkeley was the hot bed of liberalism / socialism then, just as it is now. The difference is the hippy counter culture bought into all that, "share the wealth" B.S. .......... Until we tried living it.

That whole, "Tune In, Turn On, Drop Out", nonsense sounded too good to be true. So many actually tried living it. Then, all of a sudden, living in a commune and working, while someone else was laying around eating your food, drinking your beer, smoking your dope, and banging your girl friend, just didn't add up to what we were told.

So we discovered for ourselves it's better to work hard, live on your own, and keep what you earned. Instead of sharing it with some worthless deadbeat. Who will never amount to the value of the powder it would take to blow him up.

Our generation went on to create guys like Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs, and the Bill Gates of the world. Today, (with the exception of a very few like Mark Zuckerberg ), we end up with the likes of, "Occupy Wall Street", and ANTIFA. With these same nit wits demanding free jobs, health care, housing, and everything else these idiots are preaching to them. They didn't snap out of it, and learn for themselves. We did. So now they crap on the sidewalk and urinate in the park, and break things. Because they think they're getting the short end of the stick.

B.S. is OK to listen to. We've all heard enough of it. The difference is the Millennial's still believe in it. Which is why they want to be able to stay on their parents health care until they're 26, when you are a legal adult at 21. The bulk of these basement dwellers just can't seem to grow up.

Simple-there comes a point that everyone has to realize their shortcomings, and work to correct them. You're implying that kids today aren't even smart enough to recognize that they can't do simple math in their head? And there aren't ample resources to correct that? Any idiot with a smartphone should have the resources at their fingertips to learn to do basic math in their head and not rely upon a cash register to tell them the answer. Heck, for a couple bucks you can walk into any store with a kids section and buy a set of math flashcards.

Like so many other things, people tend to be lazy and don't want to do the hard work that it takes for self-improvement. But the ones that do are the ones you never hear about.

Nope. Kids today are no more or less smart than they were 40 years ago. They're a product of what they've been taught or not taught and what they've been given.

Exactly. But we condemn the entire generation, like our fathers did before us.

For all you know she was coming off 16 hours herself, trying to pay for higher education.

I love the monthly "bash the kids" threads.

You old codgers can slam a whole generation, but I can't say that someone who open carries is a red flag. Got it.

No, we're just reporting on a generation that has successfully managed to slam itself.
