What is the proper name for it, the place where they disassemble vehicles and sell the parts. Or is it a regional term? Junk yard implies junk but the parts aren't junk. Scrap yard implies material generally only good to melt down. Wrecking yard sounds like they are damaging the cars at the yard.

Depends on region or age of person you are speaking with.

When I worked in Connecticut they called yard sales "tag sales". Up here we call them Yard sales.

In Canada we call "soda", pop (as in soda pop).

Salvage yard probably fits your question the best.

I usually say junkyard, or use the name of the specific place, as in "We towed the old Pontiac to Woody's today."

Reclamation center.......
