Scotty Kilmer says these were originally the best batteries in the world. Now they got bought by a large manufacturer (Johnson controls??) and the reliability as returned to that of an average battery but with the high price tag.

Nope, that was Optima. I ran a lot of them for a long time, and the quality did drop way off when Johnson Controls bought them and moved production to Mexico.

Odyssey are still great. They're just so dang expensive I'm not sure they're worth it.

I run farm/ severe service batteries now from Deka. My last two Optimas didn't make it a year, and I had to drive an hour to get them warrantied, so I started buying local.

I was gonna say sounds like what happened to Optima ~25 years ago. As soon as Gates let 'em go shtuff went downhill quickly

I'm glad to hear it was confusion in this thread and Odyssey is still ok

Optimas are an AGM while Odysseys are a true dry cell, IIRC? Hopefully I'm not spreading more inaccurate info!

AutoZone has a 78 group for $250 before discount. 3 year replacement. There's not enough warranty there to make it even attractive.
