I recently read a thread here from several years ago about changing the rear plugs on this engine. Some said push the engine forward or remove the coil pack. One person removed the alternator. Anyone found an easier method since then? Can you reach them from under the car?

Remove the upper torque struts and rachet strap the engine toward the radiator for extra clearance. Hey can be done from the top. Remove the coil for extra access if needed

Just don't ratchet too far because the radiator hoses will start putting pulling on the radiator.

Not sure about the Impala since I don't own one. I do own a a front wheel drive Oldsmobile with a V6, and using a ratchet strap is how I do it like mattd said. Super easy that way.

It's been three years since I changed plugs, so my memory has faded. I think the GM manual for my car says to put the transmission in neutral before ratcheting/pry bar the engine toward the radiator. Could be wrong, but that's what I remember.
