Every new fram oil filter I've looked at appears to have oil (I assume assembly oil) in the filter when you look inside I only mention this because I never see this on other makes if filters. I'm not criticizing fram I was just curious.

Maybe for anti-corrosion protecton during storage.

I never saw it on my big cummins filter, but I didn't really look either, although I did notice it on my small fram ope filters.

Jay posted about it, it is anti corrosion.

I'm not sure if its really unique to Fram, I've found red stains in the media of virgin Wix that may well be the same sort of thing.

I've seen this on Fram XG filters and some Mobil filters too. Agree it is most likely to prevent rust in storage.

I opened a few extra guards and tough guards at walmart and they all had the oil on the inside of the can and some on the threads.
