rattling exhaust heat shield

2008 Accord 164k miles, i get a rattle when accelerating with RPM at like 1500-2000

it rattles when I tap it with my knuckle

this is what it looks like

can this be replaced? it looks like the little bolts are rusted beyond belief...

You can usually remove the heat shield or use a large metal clamp to keep it from vibrating. That's what most people do.

Worm drive clamp it to the pipe or use self tapping screws to affix it to the body. Stainless zip ties didn't work so well for me.

I daisy chained two of those stainless steel worm clamps to reattach the heat shield on my catalytic converter. It's been working fine like this for around 18 years.

Worm clamp holds mine together at 278k. Least of my worries at this point!

+1 To the worm clamp idea. I believe that is the catalytic converter. It would be good to keep the shield on.

I just used a couple metal coathangers last time. Tightened them up with a pair of pliers, and twisted.

Normal procedure around here is rip the entire shield off.

Took mine off completely. That was 6 years ago. So far so good. Don't park on leaf piles.

thtere is no place on an exhaust system for wire and the reason the term is not used anymore is because there are so many of them.
