Break in after differential rebuild seems to be complete. No metal on the magnetic drain plug.

Finally got around to doing my rear diff fluid change on my 13 Ram Hemi QC 4x4 today.

It is a LSD with 3.55 gear ratio.

Out went the factory fill at 79,000 km's (49,000 miles) and in went Pennzoil 75W-140 syn with the FCA friction modifier.

The gear oil that came out was quite dark but I have seen worse. Not a lot of silver/streaking but I was also surprised with the amount of foam/bubbles in it? I did a quick 5-7 mile drive before doing it and drained it within 5 minutes after arriving home. Is this normal to see bubbles/foaming? Not a lot but enough to notice it easily.

Hopefully tomorrow, weather and time permitting, I'll get around to doing the front?

How did the front diff fluid look? I'm getting ready to do a 2016 4Runner with about 25k on it. On our Tacoma's the first front diff fluid change has always looked pretty rough. You can see the 2010 Tacoma front diff fluid I changed at just shy of 43k in a post above.

Out: grey crap
In: Mobil 1 75/90

Out: unknown

Out: looked like transmission fluid
In: acdelco auto trak II
 
2000 Chrysler Concorde 42LE transmission. Integrated transmission/differential uses gear oil in the diff. Out Subaru 75W-90, In 1 quart of Valvoline 75W-90 conventional gear oil. Chrysler warns not to use synthetic lubricant.

4th differential fill in the 195K miles on this car. Original fill, Valvoline 75W-90, Subaru 75W-90, current fill of Valvoline 75W-90 conventional. Don't remember what the original fill looked like upon draining, the second fill of Valvoline was kind of black when drained. The Subaru looked like new oil upon draining, with minimal metallic sheen when lighted.
 
2006 Ford Explorer, 4.6L 3V V8, 6R60 6-speed automatic, 8.8" rear, 150,000 miles.
Out: Factory Fill, presumably a 75W-140 synthetic.
In: CarQuest 75W-140 synthetic. Took ~2 quarts.

2017 Nissan Armada

51,800 miles

Differential replaced under warranty for leak and whining noise.

Out- FF 75w90
In- Nissan 75w90

Will change again in 5 or 10k after break in. Going with Redline, had bought it for this then discovered the leak!
 
1998 ford explorer AWD. Rear diff 146k miles.

Previously had mobil 75w140 in it.

Only changed it because the cover rusted out and started leaking.

Put in Supertech 75w140 and friction modifier
 
2019 Ram 1500 Rear Diff:

Out: FF
In: Redline 75w90 & 1/2 qt leftover RL 75w140+ LG Gear

14,720 miles. Old fluid dark but not too bad!
 
Had a good shop change my Tacoma to 4.88 gears and air lockers, front and rear. Out with FF and they use Shaeffer's. At 500 miles per their warranty that fill comes out, Amsoil goes in. 75W-90 front, 75W-110 in rear.
