Hi everyone,

I have an engine that has had a rebuild only a few thousand miles ago.

I would be interested in taking it apart, doing some balancing to it and then assembling it again.

I would of course check clearances, bearing condition, piston ring condition etc, and assuming all of this is fine, would I be able to reassemble it using all the existing parts?

I realize I'd need new head gaskets (and potentially other gaskets) but other than that would it be fine to complete disassemble then reassemble the engine?

If its running well, i'd leave it be. unless its hi-po and you are really revving it. You would have to keep the bearings and rings all with their respective positions on the crank and cylinder. I see little advantage once its together.

You don't know what torque the main and rod bearings were installed, maybe factory, maybe a bit over? I would want to match that torque value or just use new bearings.

We don't know your skill level either.

If you remove the piston from the bore it will need a minimum of a hone and new rings. They usually do not reseat.

IMHO It is impossible to clean enough after a hone without full disassembly

so you best just leave it alone.
