No it's not.

GM Powertrain NA, Opel and Saab developed the engine. This isn't a Quad [ lead development by Oldsmobile ]. This engine was to be the launch point for a world engine family.

Other than the DOHC, chain driven cam and 4 cylinders they're not closely related.

@ 4WD: How long does the water pump on the Ecotech tend to last ?
Cruze is coming up on 120k - just flushed the cooling system.

Different engine than the Quad 4 and the Ecotec 2.2 [neither are related]. The 1.8 is called an Ecotec as are many GM 4 cyl engines, but yours uses a timing belt.

When it's time to do your belt also replace your water pump. At 120,000 miles you may be overdue.

It's the LD9 engine and The LD9 Twin Cam was a 2.4 L (146 cu in) Quad 4 variant with balance shafts, and a redesigned cylinder head which debuted in 1996.
