Any 15/40 will suffice If going dino.
5/30 to 15/50 if using syn.
Those engines work hard but full throttle is where they run and cool best.
Briggs engine maintenance suggestion from my experience, check the valve lash every 100 hours. Don't wait until it is hard to start.

I guess that this depends upon your definition of "best." I run M1 10W-30 high mileage in my 22 HP Briggs for its 3.5 HTHS viscosity. Somehow I doubt that you will need to run a mower in temperatures where a good 10W-30 won't suffice. Briggs does recommend synthetic 15W-50 for commercial applications, should you wish to thicken things up a bit. Personally I wouldn't worry about it unless you always mow for more than an hour at a time.

B&S says 5w30 synthetic is the best option. 10w30 regular is another B&S option. Here in SW Florida I opted for 10w30 PP and the 20 HP INTEK twin runs nice at 165 hours on the clock. Ed

I run straight 30w in mine, and have since I bought it in 2005. That's what B&S recommended for it. It's close to 700 hours and still running fine.
