A friend just bought a used Lexus GX460 and she's complaining of creaks and squeaks when she drives over bumps. I want to lube up the slip yokes on both the diffs and transfer case as well as the U-joints.

I have Red Line CV2 grease on hand. Toyota calls for moly lithium grease and I believe Red Line uses a calcium complex thickener. The moly part is no problem. Of course, being overanalytical, I can go with ST Moly-lithium grease to keep the Toyota gods happy at the expense less robust grease.

My intuition says use the Red Line so I don't need to grease as often and to keep myself in the friend's social graces. Good move or just get the cheap Walmart grease and call it a day?

I have an `18 4Runner and wondering the same.

Probably will run Mystik JT6 High temp. in U-Joints and Mystik w/moly in the slider joints.

But haven't decided yet.

My only concern with the Mystic is...
that it is only rated to -10 degees F. What do I do if I travel somewhere like Canada or Michigan in the winter?

You're more than good enough to travel to Southern Ontario. I live in Toronto and it only goes below -10 F (-23 C) maybe a few times a year in an average winter and that's only really in the depths of winter [censored]: the eight weeks with February in the middle.

im using the REDLINE CV2 on my Tacoma u joints and my previous truck but am planning on switching to ROTELLA HD which is available at Tractor supply stores for $4 a cartridge, REDLINE may be very good but my wallet cant take paying 5 times more money on it plus shipping anymore.

Hello nthach,

The thickener of CV-2 is Ca sulfonate. U joints and CV joints require special greases. I would use the CV-2 if these two are available to you.

If you're in North Jersey, Bruce's Speed Shop in Rockaway keeps CV2 on the shelf at a reasonable price. (not affiliated w/ this business)

Lucas Marine is calcium sulfonate. Available at Advance Auto if that is an option. Some here seem to have a strong dislike for all Lucas Oil products.

It does look like Lucas Marine and WD-40 Specialist Multi-Purpose are calcium sulfonate based, as is Red Line CV-2. And they are also compatible with lithium complex greases. Hmm, since I use the WD-40 stuff already to lube up zerks...

thanx im in central jersey, that ROTELLA HD at Tractor supply stores seems very enticing at $4 a cartridge tho

I got the best results running CV2 in the evil god awful double cardon joints in the Sonoma drive shaft.

The ball and socket seemed to hold up very well, and it did just fine in -30C.
