This is a question on oil history.

Which company was first to advertise a 25,000 mile oil?

This question is open all.

I want to say Amsoil, but I have a feeling this is a trick question.

No tricks, just historical facts.

It was Mobil 1 I remember it well. Some claim the base stock was better than the ones used today, I dont know but it was good stuff for sure.

Mobil 1. In fact a car I bought from a friend had to have the engine rebuilt due to an oil related failure running Mobil 1 25k miles.

Mobil paid w/o any problems.

I remember an oil called lifetime lube. All you were supposed to to was top it off if it went low and change the filter once in a while. I never purchased it. It came in a black colored can with silver or gold lettering.

I remember trying to get 25k miles out of it, but finally gave up and changed the oil when it became very thin. Mobil 1.
My dad hated me for running it as long as I did.

Mobil 1. I am a little younger, so I recall the brochures where they tore down the million mile E30 BMW in the early-mid 90s.

This one surprised me as well.

In 1923 when oils had to be changed every 750 to 1,000 miles, Kendall oil was the first to advertise their 2,000 mile oil with their "2-finger" round logos.

The first known advertisement for a 25,000 mile oil was a Kendall advertisement in 1963 which coined the phrase, "Long Mileage."

Later, in 1969, Pontiac would recommend 12 month or 12,000 mile oil changes.

In the period from 1970 to 1990 recommended oil changes varied between 5,000 miles and 7,500 miles. The 7.500 mile oil OC interval would be found in the 1975 Oldsmobile and the 1977 Chevelle manuals.

I find this surprising because my 1970 Chevy Nova SS 396/375 stated in the manual every 2,000 miles for oil AND filter.

I was going to guess good old Neo oil, which I used many moons ago in my 2004 Honda Accord. Wear rates were exemplary, but they used a lead antiwear additive at the time, Mola knew the exact name of it.

We had a 1970 Nova, Forest Green, with a 350 ci engine and a Rochester two-barrel carb, and manual tranny. The OM as I recall suggested 3,500 miles for Severe Service and 5,000 miles for normal service.

Needless to say, our driving style was a bit above

Severe Service so I changed oil every 2,500 miles.
