i’m looking at a cpo 2017 acura rdx, base, fwd, $25k, 25k miles, regular dealer oil changes and no accidents per carfax. i’m thinking of a moderate luxury suv to replace the passat at 85k. unsure if i want to stay with vw, i.e. a new tiguan, which seems ok but thinking further afield. i’ve had fine luck buying cpo before. i searched bitog but nothing turned up on the rdx. a good sign? anyone care to chime in? thanks!

I'd really go for AWD, whatever you get. Nothing wrong with the RDX's.

hi, thanks ws6 but i don’t need awd both for my locales and for even marginally extra complication. same with all the tech packages, why i have a smartphone. however i may have learned that fwd models come with an emergency tire inflator kit, not even a spare tire donut, ugh.

Personally I think that generation RDX was wonderful.

It has proven older Honda tech including their wonderful V6 and likely 6 speed auto on a CRV platform made really nice. I would expect incredible reliability from it and something any mechanic not an Acura specialist would need to work on.

I think the best full-sized SUV is Mercedes M Class, hands down. Honestly at any price point it is the pick.

I wouldn't get a FWD SUV either.

Tiguan are good new, but not used.

Q5 are very good but need to avoid 2.0T before 2013. The 3.2 are excellent engine. One year paired it with 8 speed, 2012 I believe. The 3.0T is bulletproof but won't come cheap.

thank you zolton, but no snow, sand or off-roading so believe that i don’t need awd. im looking for a taller station wagon for reliable, paved, serene suburban erranding and highway cruising, hence a fwd suv works for me. is there something inherently unstable or mechanically unsound about a fwd rdx? i’ve had several cpo mercedes, imho mb, bmw and audi are great gobs of fun to drive, more expensive and less fun to own, been there, done that.

The MB M class SUVs are nice new, but they depreciate faster than just about anything I’ve ever seen. I would stick with the RDX or a Lexus SUV if I was in the market.

I'd actually prefer it in FWD format if you intend to keep it a long time, especially if you don't need it for winter circumstances. Nice vehicle BTW. What was the original MSRP?

Which is why a used one would be a decent buy.

They probably have around $23K in it so price is reasonable but don't think a FWD in the NE would be a quick sell.

This^^^

Wife has a 17 RDX which is a fantastic vehicle. That V6 is incredible in this vehicle as is the 6 speed.
