If you don't change your own oil (DIY) and you're in need of a change, Firestone Auto Ctrs is running a $24.99 change (with coupon) using QS Advance Durability through 9/26. There's also a coupon for $10 off SB.

Firestone Coupon

If you have a decent Walmart auto nearby they charge $19.99 every day for QS AD. Are the firestone oil change techs better than WM?.... That is debatable.

This was my go to place back when they had Kendall Semi-Syn for $19.99--guess there's some inflation since. When they switched to QS conventional for the same price I went elsewhere. I didn't understand at the time that the difference between blends and conventional for SN/SN+ 5w20's and 5w30's is words on the label.

All history now, cause I have a whole pack of post cards for VWB $9.99 oil changes from a competitor.

Especially debatable in a full employment economy.

They have good prices at Walmart and Firestone and if your local one is a good shop then they can be great deals. The problem is some of the bad ones hire unskilled flat rate techs that tend to crack plastic oil pans and like to joyride customers cars without permission, and those are the dregs of the car industry right along with F&I guys and buy here pay here stores.

A few folks here have indicated that they work at Walmart in the auto center and they no longer drain oil from cars so they avoid stripping plugs, oil pan threads, or cracking oil pans. They suck the oil out through the dipstick as standard procedure.

Appreciate the info, good to know for my non auto enthusiast friends, it's a battle convincing some of them to change the oil in their rigs more then once every 15k miles!

👍.. I figured some who don't like a Wally's or Jiffy Lube ctr might be more amenable to using a Firestone ctr. And the QS Advanced Durability is good lube for your typical 4~5k mile oci. And $24.99 is price competitive.

Its true, a lot of walmarts have gone that way. Mine hasn't though. We have the machine, but we don't use it unless the drain plug is busted up. In some cars you actually get more oil out than taking the plug out. Some cars it makes no sense to do it since the filter is right next to the plug. But it is very nice on GM ecotec or Chrysler 3.6.

The shop fees only kick in for services priced OVER $35 and this is $24.99. That's how I read it.

I had Walmart do the first oil change on my Impala with a $19.99 qs service. No complaints. I did the second one. That's the only time I ever didn't do it myself. I had just picked the car up on a cold, rainy Saturday and wanted the oil changed. I had nowhere to do it so I decided to go with the auto service industry's fall guy and let wm do it. I've actually recommended that service to others. The Firestone price is also reasonable. Believe it or not, Walmarts and quick lubes don't make any money on screwing people's cars up, and not all employees are inexperienced. I know, mind-blowing right?

Wal-Mart sucks (oil). Learned something new. smile

Since I am special for all of 2019 I can get oil changes for $20.19 at my Hyundai dealership. It will cost me a gallon of gas driving there and home. I will need to wait 30 to 45 minutes for them to change it. They may overfill it like when they changed the factory fill. Or I could spend 15 minutes at home to change the oil for a fraction of the price.

People make mistakes. I think I would want a place where I could watch them change the oil. Price is not the most important thing.

Truth alone triumphs, not untruth.

The Firestone srv station near me has a big glass window that you can see all 4 bays or you can stand outside and watch your oil drain. The Walmart near me has bays that open on both ends for you to watch. They close one side if it's raining though. The VIOC also has open bays if you don't want to stay inside your ride.

If you're someone who changes their oil every 3~4k miles and don't wanna do it yourself, just go to a VIOC or Wally's or even a Firestone for a $25 lube job. Inspect their work afterwards... check the filler cap, when you get home put a piece of cardboard under the pan/filter overnight and if no leaks the next morning, call it good.
