Vehicle is a 2014 Mazda CX5 2.5L with 98,000 km. The maintenance logbook shows all services have been done at around 10,000 km or less.

A quick check on the internet suggest the suggested oil for our 2014 Mazda CX5 2.5L on a number of websites is a 0W-20. The handbook suggests we can use a range of oils from 0W-20 to 10W-50 depending on oil temps. Our local temperature range is -10deg C (14 deg F) to 45 deg C (115F)

In that basis, the manual says we can use either a 10W-50 or maybe a 5W-40 or 10W-40. Options on the oil I should use?

Our Mazda 5 with the 2.5 gets 0-20W all year long runs great, Uses no oil between 5000 mile changes. I use Synthetic in it. Yesterday was hottest day of the year here at 97 F.

Don't waste your time on a slipshod repair.

My 6 with the same powertrain was happy on 5w-30 year-round.

I used M1 AFE 0w20 in our Mazda 5 for the first 100k miles without issue, but then again our local temps are a bit milder than yours. Perhaps consider AFE in a 0w30 weight if you're concerned about the higher ambient temps.

I use 5w30. On 5w 30 or 0w20 my car uses 1 quart per 3000 miles

Guys, Guys,
The OP is in AUS as In Australia!!!

No chance of him getting 0w20 (unless he buys on internet and pays customs taxes...).

I would recommend go with the 5W-40 or 10W-40 available locally, either synthetic blend or synthetic.
Leave it for 6kmiles/10K kilometers. I think the Mazda branded filters are pretty good.
Just check your oil level every other fill-up.

Also, I think these cars like to be driven. So maybe a really early Sunday morning 2 hours run once a month on a the highways? Twisty roads are even better.

At 98k kilometers I would check the AT fluid and maybe do some some drain-and-refill to gently refresh.

Personal experience: I cannot say much since my Mazda5 uses a NA 2.4L engine with NOT the skyaktiv technology.

If the car has been running on 0w20 all along then stick with it. Your cooling system takes care of the heat. Make sure that has been maintained as well.

"Our local temperature range is -10deg C (14 deg F) to 45 deg C (115F)"

I would use either a 0w30 or 5w30 for your climate.

-10 ?! where are you, Snowy Mountains and does it get as high as 45 up there? With that big of a swing I'd use 0W40 synthetic.

If you have a 5w30 or 0w40 available down under I’d use that.

And A5/B5 5w30 would be a good fit IMO.

welcome to this madhouse.

In your climate I would go ahead and use a 5w-40 or 5w-30 year 'round.

I use the overseas manual to choose my viscosity.
