HI all. I made a mistake taking this oils sample was talking to someone when i was planing on taking the UOA.I had the filter its oil and the oil from the sump in the container before i took the test. I am guessing that this will adulterate the results. Does anyone know do the these oil filter catch and keep the particles, do they work like a siv, a paper towel or more sealed then them so that the bits wont go back the way they came from. Could i have let the bits from the filter mix with the oil from the sump and be brought up on the test. I will double check the silicon but this is the second test with this oil using a different that i have a got the same ball park figure for it, 17ppm in the last one so i don't think it is all dirt.

TBN warning limits <4.0 - good lab!
Not blackstone with 1.0. Where they take this limit nobody no duh

TAN 7.25 > TBN 4.54 - decrease OCI
Soot 1.4% - bad fuel or problem with injectors

Thanks for the response. I have been looking up TAN and TBN. i understand now that that the TAN should not go over the TBN. I am still concerned why they don't write that on the sheet. They must assume that the person reading it know.
I will change the OCI to 10,000km. and will come back and update ye. does any one know if I should reduce the OCI further.
Could that level of soot be created by the short journeys. would it be advisable to add in some injecter cleaner.

Does anyone have any links or info on how much is too much for the by-products, mainly wondering about the sulfation.

Hi
I had soot levels of 1.5% on my last Jeep 3.0crd UOA. A forum member posted this link for me to read

https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2122499

I put my soot levels down to short runs with a cold engine. Can you get Millers Oils products in Ireland? The Diesel Ecomax is well thought of.

Right i will go with 8K as the tan was very high. and in terms of the soot after reading thought the forum posted my tikka, thank you for that by the way it was very helpful. i will not be adding in any cleaner. Does anyone have any idea about the by products i have not found anything about them online.

Acc. to a Russian lab the VO of a Castrol Magnatec A5/B5 has :
TBN 11.62 mgKOH/g per ASTM D2896(ACEA A5/B5 limit is min.8mgKOH/g; max.1.6wt.% SA )
Si 8 ppm

Concerning the by-products (by oxidation, nitration, sulfation) here are two old write-ups worth reading:

https://www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/561/oil-analysis-diesel-engine

https://www.machinerylubrication.com/Read/873/oil-tests

As for diesels you'll see varying condemnation limits among manufacturers (even the warning levels vary with labs). I'd definitely shorten the oil change interval and would be happy if the soot loading is kept under 1wt%.
Check if the intake system is sealed.

Thank both of them links are very good. will do, i tend to place a plastic sheet or the intake and if it dies the second i do then i assume the intake is leak free.
