2001 Taurus - Radiator fan question...

Are the two fans at the radiator supposed to run continuously when the car is started? Because they don't and it's overheating.

No they won't run continuously. They should run when the engine gets hot, before it reaches an overheat. Or if the air conditioner is on.

Have you done any of the basic overheating troubleshooting drills? Start by checking the coolant level. Does the heater make hot air?

The low speed should come on about 225f. The high speed about 235f.

They can fail. Relay, temperature sensor, or electric motors as a start.

The fans are working. Now, I'm wondering if the overflow tank cap may be the issue. It feels fully seated/sealed but coolant and steam is escaping after the car has been running. I've replaced the cap once so I'm wondering if the overflow tank should be replaced with a cap that's meant for it. Thoughts?
