hi guys,
im new to this forum and very happy to be here
i drive a 2016 cadilac ats-v 3.6TT
the oem oil is dexus 1 gen 2 5w30
i live in the middle east
its very hot here and also in the winter we never get below 3-5 celcius
i really want to change the oil to 5w40
but i read that in this engine there is a very tight bearing clearence but i also know that the c7 z06 corvette use 5w30 and in track days they go up to 15w15!!
what you think?

0w40, 5w40 and even 15w50 (that's what you meant for track I think) would all work just fine in your climate,no issues with a 10w-x at all if you never get below 0 Celsius.

I think youre farther ahead keeping your coolant flushed every 2-3 years. I would want to make sure the timing chains are properly lubed and would be more comfortable with 30 rather than 40. Plus, d1g2 is specifically designed for lspi with GM and the oil manufacturers working together to get it right. Change at 3 or 4k if youre nervous but thats what I do with my 2010 lacrosse 3.6llt which is notorious for eating chains and 83k still purrs like a kitten.

On these engines it doesn't matter what quality lube you use as long as it's SN rated. Any 30 or 40wt will work. Key to life is changing the oil at 5,000 mile intervals.

These eat timing chains due to DI soot and fuel dilution...change at 5 and they are good for 200000 miles plus imho

I don't know what oils are available to you in Israel but I would stay with a Dexos 1 Gen2 5w30. I think Quaker State Ultimate Durability (QSUD) would fit the bill perfectly for your needs. It's on the thicker side of a 5w30. I would shoot for a 10 thousand KM (6,200) miles oci. Welcome to bitog, cheers!

5w40 oils come from several manufacturers
Just buy a quality name brand 5w40, change it and be happy

5W40 should work just fine for you. I'd make sure you have good air filtration and no leaks in any of the air filter related plumbing.

first of all thank you guys for the fast and great answers
i think i will go up to 5w40
i have here the valvoline 5w40 synpower MST C3 series
this is all of the list on the package

ACEA C3
API SN
API SM
API CF
VW 502.00/505.00/505.01
MB 229.51
BMW Longlife 04
Porsche A40
Renault RN0700/RN0710
Fiat 9.55535.S2
Ford M2C 917-A
GM Dexos2

its also sn and also dexus 2

its ok to use dexus 2 insteed dexus 1 gen 2 ?

How many miles? If over 100K, thicker oil can help oil pressure that may be reduced by increased clearances from normal wear. I've put 5W50 in an older version of that engine and it worked great helping hot idle oil pressure.

Agreed.

Same here.

and what should be the hot idle oil pressure in this engine?

10Psi per 1k RPM is the industry standard. Most engines run more.
