August 26, 2019 – September 29, 2019 PepBoys has a $15.00 rebate on various syn oils including Valvoline, Castrol, Mobil 1, and Pennzoil brands. They'll allow two rebates, per brand, per person. If you wanted to stock up on all brands you could get a significant rebate. I'll be picking up two Valvoline AFS 5w-30's that will end up costing $13.98 (each) after rebate--not too bad considering how hard it is to find deals on Valvoline. Here's a link to the rebate form explaining the terms, but you can submit them electronically too: https://pepboys-image-production.s3.amazonaws.com/images/promotions/aug_PBA-190901.pdf

You can stack them with manufacturer’s rebates. Dunno if it is still going on but Valvoline had a $5 rebate that I used alongside this one about 6 weeks ago. Ditto for M1–they had a $10 rebate I think.

I did the $5 Valvoline rebate last month, but as I understand it, the $5 was donated to a charity in your name. I got an email receipt so I can deduct it on my taxes next year.

you can do it with the mobil1?

Will the stack a price match and rebates??

I can get them to pay me $4 per 5qt to take the motor oil off the shelf smile smile smile if that is the case

mobil1 will pay rebates on price match but will pepboys do that?

Good luck... I've had a horrible experience with Pep Boys rebates in the past and I will never purchase anything that uses their rebates again. When I called to complain about why it was denied, I was told that I did not purchase the correct items (which I did) and in a rude, condescending manner acted like I had no clue what I was talking about and still refused to honor it. I went into the store to return it and the store manager was decent enough to just give me the rebate in the form of cash in the store for all of my trouble. The issue was that the receipt was showing "Valvoline Maxlife" instead of "Valvoline High Mileage" and thus, they wouldn't budge on the fact that I did indeed purchase the correct item and not believe me when I told them they were one and the same.

I Just bought Pennzoil from Pepboys. I can’t submit the manufacturer rebate because Pepboys isn’t on the retailer list.

There is no “other” selection?
Edit: wow that’s weird. Only listed stores for promotion. It’s stores I don’t have around here too

Yep. I looked at mobil manufacturer rebate. Looks like we’ll be able to do that one.

Ok guys I went back to Pepboys and bought 1 5 qt bottle of M1 and submitted the $12 manufacturer rebate and the $15 Pepboys rebate. Let’s see what happens.

I spent about an hour at PepBoys today buying oils on "the list" and came away with some insights.

Plan 1:
0W20 M1 EP
5W30 M1 HM

When I got to the store, the store (and the surrounding PepBoys) only carry 0W20 M1 EP HM (not regular EP). The online store for the physical location showed 0W20 M1 EP, however, we figured out the online product number linked back to 0W20 M1 EP HM but was mislabeled in the online store. OK, so I'll pick out some other oils.

Plan 2:
0W20 Valvoline Modern Engine
5W30 M1 HM

The store had LOTS of 0W20 Valvoline Modern Engine and a few bottles of 0W20 Valvoline Full Synthetic (this will be important). I take them back to the manager (we're good friends at this point) and start to place the order. Guess which oil is not listed at my local PepBoys on the online store? 0W20 Valvoline Modern Engine

Plan 3:
0W20 Valvoline Full Synthetic
5W30 M1 HM

Done.

Insight: I think the reason some of these oils don't sell well (0W20 Valvoline Modern Engine) is that you cannot purchase online to get the savings (all the auto parts store have 15%-20% off online) and then ultimately they stop carrying them (maybe the same issue with 0W20 M1 EP). I think very few people walk in and buy off the shelf anymore. No one will pay $49 for 0W20 Valvoline Modern Engine. None of my local Advance Auto carries it.

UPDATE: I got the rebate card in the mail. It's a pre-paid debit card that you have to activate online AND THEN call a toll-free number to set up a PIN for it. I haven't tried using it yet, but I don't expect the transactions to work smoothly (just a hunch based on the whole set-up process). If they wanted you to have the $15, they'd just issue a check instead of making you jump through hoops. I probably won't do the PepBoys rebates again.

Seems like a lot of work which we should not have to do.

I have 3 on the way, I hope they all are on the same card.........

I expect they will be on the same card. The fine print stipulates that you have to use exactly the amount shown on the card or some amount less than that. That will be fine for me, if they work at gas pumps--I'll just pump the $15 worth and then top off with a credit card.

I'd rather just buy something on sale or at a reasonable price. I know many of you like rebates, and that's fine, but it seems to me you're really having to work for your cheap oil. I'll pass.
