how hard would it be to DIY one of those..( i know they're only like $60, but...I like making things)
would it work for tcw3? in place of dosing 1 oz /5gal fuel?

On "port fuel injected" engines, the little bit of MMO enters the cylinder with the fuel mist on the intake stroke.

Most of the fuel vaporizes, but the oil mist lands on the cylinder walls, where it helps to lubricate the piston rings.

I remember in the "old" days (1980's-1990s), it was the *SCHNIZZLE* for keeping pistons and piston ring grooves clean in aircraft engines (when added to the fuel).

These engines run on AvGas, which has high lead content.

MMO had/has:
tricresyl phosphate (an antiwear and extreme pressure additive, 0.1-1.0%), and
ortho dichlorobenzene (a softening and removing agent for carbon-based contamination on metal surfaces, 0.1-1.0%)
and it really worked great for helping keep aircraft piston engines clean internally.

My BIG questions is whether the formula has changed (gotten weaker) over the years or not......

Aside from what the label says, it's a high viscosity lubricant with mild solvent properties. And it's dirt cheap in the 1gl jug. (how much is a couple oz of 3 in 1?)... If you can't think of any uses for something like this, than you probably don't need it and should give it away to someone who can.

That would come in handy in case a big truck starts chasing you.

Especially if you're Dennis Weaver about 45 years ago grin2.

Marvel Mystery Oil exists to make Marvel rich. That's it.

It looks like a pretty simple device: a jar, a hose clamps and a brass tap.

I like the convenience of it as well. For me I am not much more than a remove and replace type, I admire people who can build such things on their own.

Here is the website: http://www.ampcolubes.com/

There are some great shots in the gallery and detailed pictures of the devices.

Seems they've added something about direct injection, etc and a good explanation of what it does with the MMO.

We don't really know but here is a thorough analysis from a few years ago:
