What is the reason for the radiator cap pressure selection?

Let's say for 1999, Honda Civic at 16psi vs Toyota Corolla at 13psi, what is the reason, both using 170F as OE temperature.

What is the reason to select 13psi or 16psi?

It raises the boiling point of the coolant. IMO there is no reason to have more than 13psi on a street car. Especially an import with an aluminum head. So it won't boil till 267F but the head gaskets let go @245F.

Use the temp / pressure rating that came ii it when it left the factory .

Do not worry about it .

It also reduces the risk of cavitation

Rather odd advice to ignore what your vehicle calls with a blanket 13 is all you need. My crown vic oem is 16 my old deville was 16psi prev owner had a 12 gauge stayed in the norm. Yet put coolant out the overflow. Proper cap called for installed and missing coolant ended. Non oem thermostats sometimes don't have the jiggler valve which can get air trapped and cause problems.

🎯🎯🎯.. have replaced many caps over the years on various rides and have always went with the OE rating.
You start messing around with the pressure and you could have issues with that radiator... it's just not worth it.
