I'm thinking about buying a jug of old Castrol Edge 0W-40 from a second-hand goods website. Here are photos of the front at back of the jug:

I believe this is old stock. From what I can make out from the photo of the back it appears to say "Made in Belgium".

Is this oil better or worse than the new Castrol Edge 0W-40 (i.e. with Titanium), made in Germany and Belgium?

Incidentally, which is the better new Castrol Edge 0W-40, the German or Belgium stock?

This jug looks like what I can find in stores around...is it old stocks, or here in Canada we only get the newest stuff a while after the US ?

One jug / one oil change interval ? Does it really matter ? Whether "old" or "new" formula (which there's no certainty the formulation changed) it won't make a bit of difference over one change. It's a quality oil in either bottle.

That data sheet you reference shows 50% to 55% PAO.

But that is an old 2014 data sheet. Here is a 2018 data sheet.

Although the OP was asking about 0W-40 oil, the kissing cousin 0W-30 seems to have a different formulation than the 0W-40.

50-55% constitute majority as far as I know, which is what I said.
Also, some later versions as far as I remember are 50-75%. Current one is 25-50%.
Now, I am not sure what was your point?

The old stock looks better to me. The datasheet you posted (467465-BE02, Version 2, 11/20/2014) shows 50-55% PAO and only 10-15% refined oil. Whereas the datasheet for the current product (467465-BE02, Version 4.03, 05/15/2018) shows only 25-50% PAO and 25-50% refined oil:

I bought the second-hand oil earlier today from a seller on Kijiji. One sealed 5l jug, and one unsealed jug with 4l remaining, all for only CA$25. If I would have bought new stock at retail price it would have worked out to about CA$106 for 9l. Fantastic deal!

Not that it wasn't a good deal but you can buy new 5L jugs at CT on the regular (one or two weeks a month) for $30 each.
