Supertech ST7317

I don't think there has been a ST7317 since before the Wix made ST time period, which was a few years ago. The WIX made ST9688 looked liked a 7317, but since they have changed back to Champ made ST filters, the 9688 looks like it always has: short and 'fat'. If you have room for a ST9688 you could use it, otherwise, the only other ST option would be the smaller ST6607.

Similar experience here.
They recommend 9688 in the two instances where I'd use a 7317.

Walmarts SuperTech ST6607 is made by Champ (Luber-finer). It is shorter than the Fram PH7317. The ST6607 is equal to a Fram PH6607, Wix 51365, Champ PH2876

Champ makes a filter PH2867 that is the same size as a PH7317. I guess Walmart has decided not to select it.

PH7317:
Inside diameter 20mm X 1.5mm thread
Height 3.469 (86)
Outside Diameter. 2.688 (68)
Base Gasket O.D. 2.484 (63)
Base Gasket I.D. 2.218 (55)
Base Gasket Thickness 0.281 (6)
By-pass valve setting - PSI 9-15

Fram PH6607:
it is shorter than a PH7317 and has the same diameter.
Inside diameter 20mm X 1.5mm thread
Height 2.625 (XX)
Outside Diameter. 2.69 (XX)
Base Gasket O.D. 2.531 (XX)
Base Gasket I.D. 2.266 (XX)
Base Gasket Thickness 0.203 (X)
By-pass valve setting - PSI 13

Lots of lube places do the same

Makes sense...just checked Autozone and they recommend the stp 6607 and the 7317. I'm guessing because champion makes supertech and stp they just carried it over

Pretty sure I've seen the 7317 in the MP series. Just looked online, MP showing 7317. As noted, it is a very popular application. Likely in value ST, just consolidate to shorty 6607. "IF" as noted above WM recommending 9688 for 'all' 7317, that won't work for many vehicles with diameter restriction. Now whether a b&m store stocks, or can keep the MP7317 in stock, another matter.

Last time in AZ, I saw an STP 7317 application, nitrile adbv. Same price as MP7317, might as well go WM MP series.

The MP7317 is the only 7317 Super Tech I have seen at my local Walmarts for several months now. For the price I would rather use a Fram PH7317 but the ST MP7317 is not a bad alternative.
Seems that most on this site would not prefer Fram, due to their cost reduced internal construction. The Champion built Supertech appears superior in that respect. After WalMart quit carrying ST7317, I tried Bosch 3323 as an alternate; however found that the depth from the sealing ring surface to the threaded base was too shallow to accomodate the threaded nipple on my Mercury outboard application. It bottomed metal to metal before much compression of the sealing ring. The MP7317 has different base construction that will be a better fit. Looks to be same as the old ST7317...
