I see Castrol shows their current offerings here

https://www.castrol.com/en_us/unite...uids/new-api-sn-plus-specifications.html

(I do not know if this is a completely current list)

And Pennzoil has something here:

https://www.pennzoil.com/en_ca/education/know-your-oil/what-you-need-to-know-about-api-sn-plus.html

but I know for sure it isnt current as there is no mention of say PP EURO 0W40 and it is available as a SN PLUS formulation.

Do you know if there is a more up to date list available on-line for even say Pennzoil for its SN PLUS oils?

Yeah there is, it is under Advanced Search Options, Designations, and is labeled "SN PLUS".

If you are searching by Product instead of Company it is under Designations.

Other than low speed detonation prevention with turbo charged engines, is there any advantage to the SN+ designation? Less calcium and more magnesium doesn't seem like any better performance for normally aspirated engines.

Great question, I've often wondered myself about this very thing.

Ive recently noticed Schaeffer manufacturing 9000 series oils now have the SN plus and
ILSAC-GF5 approved

Thanks, guys, good that somebody looked at that site a lot more closely than I did.
I am poring through some of the higher viscosity SN+ oils and am very surprised to see that Delo 400 XSP 5W40 is on the list.
I am hoping to find some other gems!

EDIT - there are two 10W20s from DKR Petroleum on the list!
Taiwanese company...fascinating.
I'd assume VIIs are not required for that grade???

I would think about ship to store...I have ordered oil to be shipped to my home and gotten the wrong thing delivered (not WM) so I prefer to see the jug before I buy.
I have to admit that I am used to just grabbing oil at WM on the spur of the moment, don't always plan ahead.
Maybe next spring, I already have my M1 0W30 AFE ready for my late fall/early winter change...wasn't planning to buy it while at WM earlier this week, but they had rollbacks!!!

According to the Pennzoil website the PP Euro 0W40 is NOT SN Plus:

https://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/products/full-synthetic-motor-oils/pennzoil-platinum-euro.html

Note the asterix in the table:

"Euro*
*API SN PLUS specification not applicable"

My view is this. Given that there's virtually nothing on the planet that calls specifically for a 0w-40 in SN+, I wouldn't worry about it. Pennzoil can yank the API specs for all I care on their Euro offerings, since the OEM and ACEA specs are what matters on them. If someone is really worried about SN+ and elevated HTHS, the easiest choice is a magnesium additive package type HDEO. Most E7, E9 types have been doing it for years.
