Different stations may be set up differently. Either way works to provide 89.

Around here 93/94 isn't available unless there's 100 octane racing unleaded blended in. It would most likely be a 59/50 blend of 87 and 91.

E10 89 octane is broken down as follows...
31% - 90 octane CBOB
59% - 84 octane CBOB
10% - 111 octane ethanol

Equals 100% E10 89 octane mid-grade

Around here, blender dispensers blend 66% Reg e10 with 34% Prem e10.
The few stations that still have 3 grade dispensers with a 89 U.S.T., they blend 9 parts 87 e0 with 1 part ethanol.

EDIT: Should have clarified that this is the way it's broken down when blending during loading. At the pump, it's blended as stated above...66%/34%.

So those stations have pure ethanol on tap? How do they blend 9:1 87E0 with ethanol?

When they load the tanker, just like all other e10 grades

Your octane ratings are wrong. You can't use 87E0 with 10% ethanol to get 89E10. I've never even seen 87E0. The way 89 mid grade is blended on the truck is the way I described my post above.

In this neck of the woods the local refineries make 84, 87, & 91 unbranded gasoline. 10% ethanol is added to make 87, 89 & 93 e10. I've been in the refineries and seen it on the boards. 87e0 is used for boaters.

Math still doesn't add up. For instance. If you use 91 octane CBOB and add 10% volume of ethanol...it comes out over 93 octane. Same for 87 CBOB. 10% volume of ethanol specs it above 89 octane. What specific local refineries are you talking about. I'd like to call and speak with them.

Look for the API markings painted on the ground fill ports. Middle unleaded tank will be marked if present. No middle tank, then a pump blend of regular/premium.
