I also love how they mention a 0w-20 in A3/B4. Why bother mentioning a product that doesn't even exist? People are confused enough by the specifications without inserting mythology.

Ongoing saga since 1997.

Yes, at least. It's today's version of VW/Audi dealers using an ILSAC 30 instead of an A3/B4 30, perhaps.

My Atlas "requires" a 504 0W-30.

When I asked the shop foreman (a good friend of mine) if VW ever requested or took an oil sample for warranty work in his 20 years, he said no.

I poured in Mobil 1 0W-40. I'd do the same for a new GTI.

I'm not liking the VW requirements for the 508.00/509.00 in my wife's new Tiguan. Especially with the recommended 10,000 mile oil change interval. The 508.00/509.00 oil is pricey. I emailed Exxon Mobil and asked when they were bringing the Mobil 1 ESP x2 to the US market. I should have a reply next week. Tell me, what exactly are you using in your new VWs?

Why not use a 504 0w-30? Advance Auto Parts has https://mobiloil.com/en/motor-oils/mobil-1/mobil-1-esp Amazon prime too https://www.amazon.com/Mobil-121218-0W-30-ESP-Motor/dp/B00OKK7YEQ/ref=sr_1_2

Cheat and put in Mobil1 ESP x1 0w30 from Amazon.com, or get LIQUI MOLY Top Tec 6300 0W-20 or the same in "6200" for VW explicitly ( https://products.liqui-moly.com/top-tec-6200-0w-20-7.html ) https://www.amazon.com/s?k=toptec+6200

Because I can't be bothered.

I'll let everyone know what ExxonMobil says about the US release of the Mobil 1 ESP x2 508.00/509.00 as soon as I hear back from them.

Expensive oil in Finland. Cost about 70€ for 5liter. But the only oil off the shelf that carry VW 508. Castrol 0w-20 LL IV does not have the VW 508 any more.

In the U.S., ECStuning.com has Castrol 508 0w20 oil, and they run Fuchs products too.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/engoil/ge525771ldsp/
Between ecstuning.com, fcpeuro.com, blauparts.com, amazon.com, etc., you can get about anything you want imported to the states.

Using those low or mid saps oils is OK in North American since sulfur has been fading from the gasoline here. Should keep DI intake valves cleaner too.
Also, there are some new Mercedes DI engines that have particulate filters on gasoline engines that could use the low-saps stuff.

Also it is ACEA A1/B1.

Which means that it fails the basic requirements of ACEA A1/B1, VW 508 00 and SAE 0W-20, all of which require 2.6 cP minimum. Also, why not ACEA C5 rather than the obsolete and largely irrelevant A1/B1?

I'd guess that's a typo on their TDS, but that's just a guess.

I just got a reply back from Exxon Mobil USA. The rep said, that at this time there is no plan to release the Mobil 1 ESP x2 0W20 508.00/509.00 spec oil into the US market. We will have to see if this changes.

The oil formulated to mitigate the LSPI will typically have a reduced level of calcium and an increase in magnesium.
LSPI is a newer phenomenon directly affecting the turbocharged gasoline direct injection engines.

The plan is to do an oil change every 5k miles. I have done only 1 oil change so far on the Tiguan at 5k miles, and used 6 quarts of Driven Racing DI20 oil. This oil is specifically designed for TGDI engines. My plan is to alternate the Driven with the factory VW Castrol oil each oil change. At the 10k oil change, I will use the Factory VW Castrol oil.

Why would you even use the DI20 at all? Their website reads like a joke and they don't even offer any MSDS, PDS, etc for any of their products.

This ad copy from their website would have me running for the hills. Just use Castrol at all times.

"Driven Racing Oil, born from Joe Gibbs Racing, is formulated specifically for all-out race and high performance engines. What makes our products different? In simple terms, our products are unique because we always put the "Motor ahead of the Molecule". While other oil companies are in love with chemistry and have no real world understanding of how the products are actually used, Driven keeps things in the proper order. The oil is for the motor, not the other way around. Our product development team looks at the motor and how it is used; then we design application specific products using a "zero compromise" approach that delivers a measurable performance advantage. "

What a bunch of nonsense.

"What a bunch of nonsense." That is an excellent statement. I ain't worried about any stinking LSPI. This car will be getting 93 octane fuel. I do think that 0W20 oil for a turbocharged GDI engine is a bit too thin. And, the recommended 10,000 mile OCI is too long.

Sorry for the bump, but was on Mobil1's website looking for something and noticed they have the ESP X2 0W20 listed on the USA website now:

https://mobiloil.com/en/motor-oils/mobil-1/mobil-1-esp#0W-20

Looks like it's spec'd not only for VW 508/509 but also the GM DexosD requirement for the straight six diesel they're putting in the 1/2 ton Silverados, I'd guess that's what spurred them to offer it here now.
