Well there is also the Canyon All Terrain and All terrain X. Same features as the Z71 in a nicer package.

This quote says it all, "For its part, GM has filed 13 technical service bulletins concerning the unit, none of which remedied the issue."

One of those TSB;s (Document ID: 5181942 - https://bit.ly/2YrZGkJ) was the suggested "flush" and refill with Mobile 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP fluid to solve the "supposed" moisture problem.

Ouch!

I agree. A nice truck tarnished due to a poor transmission. While the claim the issue is a "shudder", I'd like to know what the failure rate is?

I had a 2004 with the 3.5 I5 and a 5 speed manual. I can't remember exactly how many miles it had (less than 50K) but in the 8 years I owned it I had to spend $600 to replace a wheel bearing assembly.

I really liked the 5 cylinder engine.
