Phillips has a new aero oil, named above. Unlike recent AeroShell it appears to be conventional rather than semi-synthetic. Also, both have this additive package called LW-16702. Anybody know what that be? Tom?

LW-16702 is a Lycoming anti wear additive which sports a chemical identity of TRIS(METHYLPHENYL) PHOSPHATE...

AeroShell contains in correct proportions an equivalent anti wear additive...

The universal averages of Phosphate in aviation oil is 343 PPM whereas the universal averages for lead is 5030 PPM... Mercy!!!

$43.00 for 6oz...

I remain unconvinced that any aero oil improves engine life. That only happens with good maintenance and proper, regular use.

Although the additive is required for non roller Lycoming cams to hold up.

I also don't think the oil does anything fancy. Just run it and change the oil often. Sitting wrecks most engines. Our local large flight school runs Phillips 20W50 and gets 3000+ hours out of their engines. Sure they get used lots but they also get the s hit flown out of them by new students. I usually change my oil 25 to 30 hours or twice a year, whatever comes first.
