Expired inspection stickers

And for all the talk about safety inspections doing good, try to find a study that shows any difference between states that have inspections and states that don't. Doesn't matter if its accident rate, injury rate, or death rates... not much evidence that the inspections do much other than make people feel good.

If someone has a study to the contrary, I'd love to see it.

You're right about Neuyorkistan. Getting a car inspected is something of an art form if it's over 5 years old. Ya better know who to see and treat him like a king. I always time mine for the first day of the month after they expire. It only steals me an extra month each every year but it's one of life's simple pleasures. Just one more tiny victory in the fight against Socialism ...

Texas has annual safety inspections required for all counties......We usually lead the nation is vehicle fatalities, But we also have more miles of road than any other state. A lot of it being 2-lane blacktop FM state highways....Which are naturally more treacherous than divided multilane Interstates.

I believe the problem is partly because the data isn't collected. Accidents are written up by the police and they just state the facts. It's hard for them to know what actually caused the crash. You can only do a study that's as good as the data. No data, no conclusion. This article somewhat hints at both, accident caused by bad brakes that an inspection station shouldn't have passed, but then goes on to say that the police can't always determine the cause of an accident. Sometimes you just have to do your own analysis of the data that's available and draw your own conclusions instead of being smug in that there's no study that shows otherwise. The money to do the proper study and the data that needs to be collected just isn't out there.

We have safety and emission inspections here in TX too, but I still see a TON of cars driving around that probably shouldn't be on the road. I swear these people must know someone who gives them stickers

But... cops can still cite you for obvious safety violations

If the police were smart they would set up a road safety inspection spot check just down the road from the inspection station exit, they'd make a fortune in safety violation fines

Florida doesn't do safety inspections.

I think they stopped inspection stickers in the mid 90's. I was glad they did away with them.
I just had this La. inspection sticker put on July 30th. It's pathetic how La. tried to save a few pennies to get results like this.

You do realize that what you're doing is probably pointless though right? It's unlikely that you car will get totaled, or that you decide to sell it or that it breaks down the month the sticker expires right? So if you did this for 6 years and got 6 extra months, the car dies 6 months after you get the sticker and it'd all be the same if you didn't bother right? Plus some cops are super aggressive on the 1st of the month and just look for expired inspection stickers. Not worth the risk/benefit.

Plus there's lots of "socialism" in this society. Social security, medicare, public schools, public transportation, roads, police, fire, etc.

Did you know in Roman times the fire brigades were private? If you house was burning down, they'd come by and ask if you'd like to pay to have the fire put out.... That was Crassus, he got quite rich doing it...

BOF, so I may be a little conspiracy paranoid, but is that a two year sticker? We have 4 vehicles, all the 2 yr stickers peel. I got a one year sticker on our Pilot in May and it's perfect. The two yrs start peeling immediately.
