I think the best lesson in this incedent was don't leave bare electrical wires dangling around !

Lightning was swept wing while the 21 was delta....oops on me.
I still think they look similar from the side.

I've heard it called a "notched delta".
 
I had a squadron mate who flew these during a RAF exchange tour. One interesting thing he told me about them is they were the only twin engine fighter that had better range on one engine than with both running.
 
The Lightning was in service when I was a kid and my father was in the RAF. I still cherish my memories of standing at the end of the runway at an RAF base in West Germany and watching them take off, point the nose to the sky and disappear. I also recall some visiting F-15s doing the same thing but whereas the Lightning was a raw, visceral experience the Eagle was a sleeker, more efficient (but no less impressive) sight.
 
The -17 and -19 had *similar* sweep, not exact, and more blunt wingtips that *might* resemble the Lightning.
