That was it, I turned off SmartByte and speed are back up to normal, do I delete it or just leave it turned off?

Uninstall the McAfee. That is bloat ware installed by the PC maker. There could be other programs that were installed by the PC maker that can also slow down your computer. With Windows 10, you already have Windows Defender and you don't need to be running 2 different security software.

I clicked on uninstall smartbyte and it's been utilizing 10-30% of my cpu ever since...about 14 minutes. How long should it take to uninstall?

I do not remember how long it took to uninstall SmartByte.

You could always turn your PC off, reboot and then see if SmartByte has been uninstalled. If not, then repeat the uninstall process.

OK Thank you for your help. Even though it shows SmartByte running, the computer seems to be unaffected by it now.

It can severely limit your download speed! This happened to me on a Dell Inspiron Windows 10 laptop I purchased about 9 months ago. I uninstalled Smartbyte and my download speed went back to normal.


Based on that thread, I'd likely uninstall any Dell proprietary software that might reinstall it, which it sounds like, in that thread, happens frequently
