what tool is used to get the plugs out?

Technically, it's a sealed battery.

It may be possible to get to the water, but I could never figure it out on mine. My Duralast Group 49 lasted 6 years without any topoffs.

My Dad boiled his boat battery and I unsuccessfully tried to get it open. It had cell caps, but I think they were glued on. I've read that you can even crack open so called maintenance-free batteries but I'm 0-1 so far, lol.
