Apologies if this Q is already answered, but unsuccessful search (so far). Just bought an '16 Mazda 3 w/ the 2.5 engine and wondering if any suggested oils (haven't received owner's manual yet). Thank you in advance.

have same engine in my cx 5 i use castrol magnatec stop start 5w30 seems to work smooth, but as always follow your manual and u will be fine(grade and intervals) and always change the filter as well.

If you have warranty, stick to 0w20. If not, either 0w20 or 5w30 are suitable per the manual viscosity recommendations.

The 2018 Manual says SN 0W-20 for United States, Canada and Puerto-Rico. For Mexico 5W-30 (1st choice) and 5W-20 (2nd choice). I do not know if the Mexico engines are the 14:1 compression ratio vs the 13:1 in the US. The manual recommends Castrol but does not mention a particular product.

BTW: The manuals are easily available online in PDF.

EDIT: The last time I changed oil, I had available 2.5 qts of 0W-20 and 2 qts of 5W-30 (same brand). The vehicle performed great and the UOA was perfect after 5200 miles.
