My lovely bride looked over my shoulder while I was viewing car porn and out of the blue remarked, "Why don't you flip the 2 Series for a true two seat sports car? Between the X1 and the Clubman we can carry four people if we need to." So, that opens up another avenue of possibilities. I may yet keep the 2er and just add the M Performance LSD and a mild tune. That would mean I'd have @370 hp that I could actually use. Still, there are quite a few two seaters I wouldn't mind owning. A used Cayman S or Z4 M Coupe head the top of the list, and a used 370Z is also in the running(an old-school design we won't see the likes of again, I think). The Club Sport is the slow car I enjoy driving fast, so that pretty much eliminates the BRZ/86 and Miata RF, as nice as they are. Corvettes are great cars, but they have just never given me a "gotta have it" vibe. A Viper GTS would be a hoot, as would a Lotus Elise.
In any case, it's a lot more fun to hunt for cars when you don't need to flip something- and especially when time is not a factor in the slightest.

I drove past a Jaguar F-type the other day. It was flat out gorgeous! Two year old examples are not a bad price.

Thorottlestop in Elkhart Lake your one stop shop great place to stop in and check out unbelievable cars on hand.

I'm 62 and I don't think it rides that bad. And as I said, it's the old school choice- red LED instrumentation anyone?

Is the goal performance, the unusual factor or open to possibilities? New, recent or older?

We seem to have similar taste so here is a reflexive brain dump, in no order:

996 Turbo
Elise/Exige
Maserati GT
M Z3/4
late '90's on Aston Martin

Or, import something really cool if you will entertain 25+ years old;

Z1
R5

I could go on.....

My Better Half wants me to lose an old Rover in favor of a more recent Jeep so I'm on a similar path.

As excellent as it is, if he already eliminated the 86/BRZ and Miata RF due to speed, the S2000 is only a tiny bit faster than those...

I didn't mention it before, but I'd prefer a coupe- although I almost bid on a nice M Roadster on BaT.

Have you actually ever got into and out of an Elise?

Yes- I almost bought a supercharged Elise instead of the 2er.

348 is a nice one....good call.

If you want a coupe, thinking more, I still have trouble getting past a 996/997 Turbo.... Great looks, if you can get past or actually like the headlights, performance speaks for itself, no IMS/RMS worries and and they are still reasonable for a Porsche. And you have an awd turbo Porsche.

But a much better car....

Since you mentioned a Viper GTS, I thought I'd mention I enjoy mine. It's a 5th gen with several pieces from an ACR, minus the big wing and cutouts in the front fenders. It has more insulation than the ACR, so it's nicer to drive, since it doesn't have the big wing, just a smaller spoiler, it doesn't have as much ultimate cornering grip above 120 mph, but it's also not slowed down on the top end by the aero drag from a big wing. Which is an advantage at open road events like the Silver State Classic Challenge. Forced induction adds to the fun factor too.

The Alfa Romeo 4C popped into my head, but I believe it is auto only and that probably limits its appeal.
I drove a friend's 350Z part of the time on a long trip several years ago and was distinctly unimpressed...I'm sure the 370Z has a lot of updates other than the bigger engine, though.
