I pulled the diff cover on a 14 Bolt Chev and noticed the last mechanic to do this applied a small amount of red sealant on each bolt about a third way down ( none on the head). The bolt holes are blind. The cover has a gasket. I'm not sure there is any advantage of putting sealant on the bolts other than helping to keep the bolts from loosening. And no, I'don't think this was thread lock). Anyone have a recommendation on this? Thanks.

You do not need thread sealant on those bolts, they do not penetrate into anything needing sealing. I wouldn't put thread locker either. Those bolts are not going to loosen if you torque them correctly.
