LINCOLN COUNTY, Nevada — Dozens of brand-new vehicles were destroyed after 33 train cars derailed near Caliente, Nevada, on Wednesday.

Much less insurance payout if that is the case. Many of those would still bring 5 figures at the salvage auctions.

The drivetrain is valuable - I'm sure LKQ or one of the authorized rebuilders for the OEM(unless it's Toyota/Honda/Nissan) will grab them.

I'd imagine the freight carrier just bought all those new cars?

I'm sure Union Pacific and the automakers have insurance for that. Might be an expensive payout, since the dealers were expecting those cars. I'm not sure about chain of custody with cars.

The Molroney stickers do have the dealer's name on it as well as the method of transport but the cars might still be in possession of the OEM until it arrives at the railhead and gets processed by AWC or another logistics company which transfers ownership to the dealership.

I believe that is UPs rail access to southern California. Not much out there but that area is attracting more and more retirees
