If he can't find a VW-approved 5W40 or 0W40 (the most common weights/types of VW 502.00 oil around), there is no way he's finding an approved 5W30. Pretty rare.

They have Valvoline and Castrol 5w40 in my hicktown Napa and at the Walmart. A town of 2k people.
