Guys, have a 4.4L jug of 0W20 Mobil 1 AFE. I want to add 1L 5W50 Mobil 1 and hope to get close to a 5W30

Any way of doing this math?

You are welcome!

I just hope I did it right, haha.

I used 8.7 cst @ 100c for the AFE and 17.5 @ 100c for the 5w-50.

The M1 FS X2 5W-50 has actually KV100 = 17.1 cSt. That gives 9.86 cSt for the mixture/blend, rounding off to 9.9 cSt.

The M1 FS X2 5W-20, like all M1 FS and ESP oils, is a Euro oil; so, it has an ester (POE) content of 5 - 7%. Since this is a small percentage, alpha in the formula should be close to 1, and the viscosity of the mixture/blend should still be close to 9.9 cSt. For a more ester-heavy oil, it could be slightly above 10.0 cSt.

that would be a light 30W, 20W's need all the help they can get but a 5-50 would be loaded with viscosity improvers for sure!

It's coincidental that this came up as I've been contemplating a Mobil 1 mix for my next OCI in my 2014 Focus.
I have 3 qts. of 0W20 (older SM) and i was planning to add 1.5 qts. of M1 10w30 for the warmer weather....It will come out as a thin 30 wt. or a thick 20 wt.....whatever.....I'm doing the mix because I don't have enough 0w20 SM...and I have 2 qts. of 10w30 SM....so it should be fine.

I know Mobil stated that mixing M1 was OK....Does anybody think mixing would shorten the OCI length capabilities?

I've been mixing oils to get what I want for my wifes S2000 for 160k miles. I'm running 4 qts. of M1 0/40 fs and 2 qts. of M1 racing 0/50 for the last five(5) 7500 mile oil change intervals. Before that I ran (SM)M1 HM 10/40 and V-twin 20/50 at the same mix ratio. With piston speed up at F 1 levels and witness to over 10 engines that have gone boom on the track and/or street, I wnat to make my wifes car last as long as I can, its way cheaper than buying a new toy for the wife. I also know of some older ZO6 Corvettes that run a 50/50 mix of M1 0/20 AFE and M1 Racing 0/50 oil with good results that brought down metal numbers.

Mix away,
Rod
