My condolences to his family and friends. Racing on public roads which are closed for the event, will never be as safe as racing on a purpose-built racing circuit. Hopefully the handwringers won't stop the competition opportunities for those inclined to test themselves.

RIP, Carlin Dunne

Does anyone know what happened? All the reports I've seen are preliminary and just say that he fell very close to the finish. May be too soon for the cause to be determined.

Terrible tragedy. I didn't know him but it feels like a personal loss.

I know some people that have run the PPIHC, and they offered some insight, but it is still just speculation. They simply said that traction is very often at a premium, and frost heaves can upset the bike. Whether either of those was a factor here, they did not know.

I don't want to speculate. I've done/do some dangerous things, and I've always held the opinion that when it's your time, it's your time. Live life to the fullest, and have no regrets.

It's still a tremendous loss for the family and friends. Again, my sincerest condolences to them.

Managed to get out of work on Saturday to go to the funeral.
