Been needing a small truck to tow around some smaller things. Well I remembered my Jetta is actually rated to tow 1500LBS. So im gonna put a trailer hitch on it and use this. This bad boy still needs set up, fit perfectly in the back of the car.

The counter man was awesome. I found a coupon that brought the total down to $286. He said he could do one better. Gave me a friends and family discount, and a 1 year inside track club membership which drove the price down to $250. cheers

You fuzzed out your VIN, Mr. Stallbaumer!

My DMV looked critically at my register receipt, certificate of origin, collected $12 of my hard-earned dollars, and issued me a plate. Despite their doubts, typing that weird serial number in resulted in their computer correctly identifying my vehicle.

Of course it took the other copy with my name not fuzzed out...

I welded mine after bolting it together to take the rattles out. (I had the 40x48 inch teeny-tiny one.)

They issued a non-round tire, but I straightened it out under warranty with them. Took a while, maybe 6 weeks.

Used infrequently but was a nice trailer.

waste of government time to put a plate on a small trailer

They had a big recall not to long ago with the tires. Must have been some REALLY cheap Chinese tires. I thought about getting the smaller one but the price on this one was too good. I don't think the larger one will do any damage to my car as long as I don't load er up.

I might have to end up welding it...

I have the same 4'X8' folding trailer I bought a long time ago. I tow it with my GTI. Having it is what what has kept me from buying a much needed truck.

The first thing I replaced was the coupler. The coupler that came with mine was painted black and looked iffy. It looks like they put a better one on them now.

I eventually removed the unknown grease and repacked the wheel bearings with something of higher quality.

I installed a sheet of stained on all corners 3/4" plywood for the floor.
I added forged eyelet bolts for each corner I got at Tractor Supply.
They are angled so when I fold the trailer up, they meet and I can use a lock on each side to secure the trailer.
Be mindful of the license plate when and if you tilt the bed as you don't want to bend it.
Also be careful regarding the wiring when you tilt the bed or fold it. Do something to make it bullet proof now.

I bought a spare tire and a bottle jack which I have held in place on the cross member. I bought a Reese spare tire mount.
I also fabricated shock mounts and added shocks. It helps smooth the ride out, but only when weight is on the trailer.

Your Jetta will tow it just fine. The trailer is like a flexible flyer. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/p...59-3260-eye-bolt-galvanized?cm_vc=-10005

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to watch the coupler.
I have heard about the gease and wiring situation so i'll do that when I build it later this week. Luckily Kansas doesn't do plates on a small trailer like this. Out of curiosity how did you do the shock mounts?

I bought one of these like 30 years ago from China. Same folding design. Kept it for about 5 years, added a floor, side rails etc. Then some guy kept coming around asking to buy it- he was really persistent and finally I said something like $400 cash or stop bothering me, and he showed up a few hours later with the cash. My need for the trailer had gone away by then, so I took the cash. It seemed really odd at the time, and even in hindsight it seemed odd, but his money was green and real. It worked out fine.

Little trailers are awesome. I've got a trailer that's similar size. It's got full size 235/75-15 tires on it though and I welded brackets to bolt a 12' Dodge Ram 8' truck bed to it that I got for free. I pull it with my Jeep and have no need for a truck. Took it last weekend with a bunch of junk to the dump.

The folding "feature" is their Achilles's heel.

I added an 8' long angle iron (one long piece each) to the top of each of the rails to make mine "useful".

Probably one of the best impulse buys I have made. I wasn't planning on ending up with a pickup so I bought one of these . I moved from my apartment to my house with it. Even started doing a lot of house work with it and, to be honest, I actually prefer it over the pickup since it has a low load height.

They're so cheap and easily customizable that it just makes sense to abuse them and modify them for what you need. I'll throw some 1/8'' plywood sides on and then it functions as a portable dumpster for when I do larger construction projects and can't make it to the dump for a few days. They don't take well to overloading though. I ate a wheel bearing on mine when I had it over 2000 pounds

However, there are a few downsides. The coupler is horrible. I had to shim mine with washers so it would actually work. Wiring - run your own ground for everything, do not ground through the trailer frame. Repack the bearings. And try to throw some extra paint on it or fluid film it. Mine has rust issues after 2 years.

If you're putting sheet of plywood down, use galvanized carriage bolts and nylock washers. That provides a much better surface than hex head bolts.

One of these years I will buy the 1700 pound one and use that to build a teardrop
