Not really related but still of interest HF has a coupon for the LED 4’ 5000 lumen shop lights. $20. That’s the first I’ve seen them cheaper than $30 around here.

Learned my lesson with cheap no-name LEDs, started going bad in less than a year. May give these a try, thanks.

usually it comes down to using them in enclosed fixtures which is not recommended.

I had some of the $5-$8 each cree bulbs(old style glass) they were dropping the glass covers on the floor due to insufficient hotglue..
the new ones seem to last a couple years.. no matter the brand.. Due to the tiny heatsinks.

I'm buying the High CRI bulbs for bathroom etc.. that is the biggest difference from the $1 range bulbs.

At least the new ones look like lightbulbs and arent goofy plastic shapes.

As with anything sold by HF (with the exception of their hand tools), check the warranty on a HF product. I've seen their warranty on hanging LED lights and it's 90 days, IIRC. The same product sold by Menards has a 5 year warranty. Now I know you don't have a Menards in NY, but the same product sold by your chains up there should have a similar warranty.

Local rebates from the energy companies has finally brought LED’s to less than $1 per bulb, even the 1600 lumen 100w equivalents.

I still have CFL’s that just wont die!

Got a bunch of Dollar Tree bulbs that are replacing CFL'S as they dim or die. Probably a lifetime supply since I'm a geezer.

Not my experience, the cheap ones have short lives in every fixture... and it's not power surges, no evidence of surges harming anything else nor were any logged by my UPS.

My theory is it's the budget driver design coupled with insufficient heatsinking, making them run too hot and the switching transistor fries. Unfortunately most are potted so not even easy to repair, but then would you repair a $1 bulb? Funny thing is would you even wait to collect enough of them to mail to the manufacturer for warranty replacement?

Give me a good old 4' T8 fluorescent any time, as long as it has a modern high frequency ballast. Aluminum and glass are highly recyclable and come from the most abundant elements on earth. Mercury, there's hardly any in them these days and what there is, came out of the ground anyway.

I could go on about more brightness per tube, etc, but meh, back to the topic. $1 bulbs are worth $1. I wouldn't want the hassle for lights you frequently use.

The blue light bothers my eyes in most of these LED bulbs. The CFL bulbs I have experience with have not lasted long. For now we are living in a one bedroom apartment, I replaced all the ceiling fixture lights with standard bulbs and there has been no change in my electricity bill, and the light is more natural.

The light from incandescent isn't natural, it's yellow as all get out, it's just what you're used to.

^ that leaves out the large gulf in bulbs with better CRI. Cheap LED bulbs tend to make everything look grayish green to blue, so are best reserved for any area other than bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, etc, in other words anywhere you don't want food or humans to look like rotted dead meat. Lower color temp LED bulbs help, but CRI is where it's at, choose the highest (trustworthy) you can.
