I would like to switch over to 75w110 given the weight of the vehicle but the owners manual has it as 75w85 MB fluid.
MB owners pl. chime in on which gear fluid is suitable for MB differentials and would 110 be a concern.

It's a very rare fluid. Never found any aftermarket maker of it. In the forums the general consensus was that because it's only a couple quarts, you just bite the bullet and order the MB fluid from the dealer. And I would still do that even though mine is 10 years older than yours. I think I got mine online which was only slightly cheaper than the dealer after factoring in shipping.

RL makes both 75W110 and 75W85.

75W85 has MB approvals:MB 235.15
MB 235.7
MB 235.74
MB A 001989 59 03
MB A 0012 989 33 03

I'm no MB owner.IMO, the spec'ed differential 75W85 is strictly for fuel economy.Period.
Yes,the huge concern with suggested 110 is huge loss of fuel economy, if not perceptible.

Wolf.............IDK. RedLine says: MB 235.15....MB 235.7.... MB 235.74....MB A 001989 59 03....MB A 0012 989 33 03 are approved. Isn't that what you see??? That's what I see on RL's approved list.

There's a difference between approved by the manufacturer and the maker of the fluid that just claims that it's suitable for applications which calls for a specific spec but isn't actually on the list of fluids approved by the manufacturer.

Can you post a link to the RL spec?

The MB 75w85 differential fluid is made by Fuchs. You can get it for $14 per liter on rmeuropean.com.

Ain't that computer smart for link stuff. Go to RedLine 75W85 gear oil. This is all of the listings;

I might be wrong but it should be a w166 model, right?

Then it needs https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/239.71_en.html in the rear diff

and https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/239.72_en.html in the front axle .

https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/231.1_en.html

Very interesting...239.72 points at SINTOPOID FE SAE 75W-85 as only approved fluid.
Labels of this fluid only list 235.7 approval (internet photos...I don't know how old the are).
Official info from Fuchs (jan.2018) lists the fluid as having
MB-APPROVAL 235.7
MB-APPROVAL 235.74
MB-APPROVAL 239.71
MB-APPROVAL 239.72

https://www.fuchs.com/fileadmin/sch...es_EN/Argumenter_EN/MB_Argumenter_EN.pdf
..Which is confirmed by MB.

BEVO however "hide$" SINTOPOID FE as 239.71 -approved (in favor of Mobil's Mobilube FE Plus NG which is available in 200l. drum$ only ;-) ) And the dealer will happily recommend them 1l. bottles for $34 each...
https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevo...evolisten&suchbegriff=SINTOPOID%20FE

So there is a strong chance that for whatever reason(heh..) MB is not willing to recommend the widely-available Fuchs product as suitable for rear diffs for a range of models.

Compare this
https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevo...evolisten&suchbegriff=SINTOPOID%20FE
..and

https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevo...mp;suchbegriff=Mobilube%20FE%20Plus%20NG

I've noticed this before with other products BTW...

When was this 239.71 cat introduced anyway? Must be very recent...

There used to be different MB differential oils with different visosities listed on different bevo sheets.

But my understanding is except for Fuchs 75w85, the other MB differential fluids have been discontinued, and the factory fill on all MB vehicles in USA is Fuchs 75w85, and Fuchs 75w85 can be used on all MB differentials.

The most aggravating part of Euro vehicles is this stupid mindless dot conventions.
Stick with one fluid and move on, why do Americans get this right.
I will go to the dealership have them look up this [censored] dot conventions and give me their OEM fluid.

It's a 2018 Mercedes. Why are you changing the differential oil?

Leave it alone before you make things worse trying to fix something that isn't broken.

Changing the differential and x-case right after 10K miles is a best known method in my maintenance book

Go MB OEM. I have gotten to the point I don't like the "suitable for the following applications" spec made by the various lube companies be them RL or Amsoil for Maxlife or etc. I am now to the point I look for license numbers and "approved by the manufacturer."

I like your maintenance schedule. Extremely cautious but it can't hurt.

Best known method for what?

I Presume initial wear particles will be removed and then the diff is good for 50K. On Limited slip diffs an early change is particularly recommended.

It's your money to burn, but you definitely do not need to do the rear or front differential early. On Mbworld forums changing differential fluid every 100,000 miles was deemed to be a safe and conservative schedule.

I also think there is no benefit to changing transfer case fluid ahead of schedule. I would just follow the service intervals set forth in the owner's manual.

The only exception is if you own AMG, then owner's manual recommends early change in differential fluids.
