As the title states , is the newest Hyundai SP4-M ATF made from Group III or Group IV (PAO) base stocks ? Trying to better understand the composition to determine if it is truly a better ATF than Maxlife All Vehicle ATF (rated for SP4-M) or the similar Castrol ATF ? ... Or just a highly inflated priced dealership Group III ATF (now at $20 per qrt.) ?

2 years ago I found an advertising sheet that was describing SP4-M and it said Ester based ATF and it was then pulled from the location I posted it online after about a month of being a good link. After about a hour of search the internet for another copy I gave up. Whether it was a mistake or they change it to a PAO or G3 who knows. I guess if someone wants to send a sample to Polaris Labs we can look at the "oxidation" level and tell roughly if it has ester in there by that.

Hyundai's own oil company product (Xteer SP4) SDS looks to be group III ??: "Distillates (petroleum), hydrotreated heavy paraffinic" - CAS 64742-54-7 - 80-90% content

You might say "but that's for SP4, not SP4- M". Except for the U.S. marketed Hyundai and Kia fluids, NONE of the Hyundai approved fluids have changed their designation from SP4 to SP4- M (Michang, SK Zic, etc.). Here's an example of SK Zic which claims to be the factory used product: http://zic-eu.com/products/transmission-oils/zic-atf-sp-4.html

Here's another Korean made product NOT on Hyundai's approval list. It, too, appears to be a group III oil in the SDS: http://www.korlube.com/en/product/product_view.php?ca_name=ATF+%26+Gear+Lubricants&wr_id=37

The Mopar SP4-M sds does not list a CAS No. and just states "petroleum base oil": http://www.weirparts.com/msds/Chrysler2016/MoparSP-IVMAutomaticTransmissionFluid.pdf

Mania, if your statement about SP4-M is correct about it being a group IV or V base oil, then it seems that ALL of the rest of the approved products are different (group III). I'm not calling you a liar, but this situation makes no sense to me at all.

I'm leaning hard on using the Maxlife All Vehicle ATF which has updated to provide a SP4-M recommendation . I would use in my newer Sonata and other Hyundai / Kia vehicles as a drain and fill every 30K miles which should prove safe . Again , if the Hyundai SP4-M is nothing special then I'll save my money !
